Website design

Contractor website design that books jobs

We build websites for the homeowner who finds you on a phone while standing in the driveway. Each site is custom, fast and live in 30 days, and there's no build fee to get started. We're a contractor website design company in Mahwah, New Jersey, and we build for contractors across the state and in other parts of the country.

The job of the page

Three questions a homeowner needs answered right away

A homeowner finds you on a phone while looking at a stained roof. They scan the page instead of reading it, and they're looking for three things.

01

What do you do?

Your service should be stated in plain words at the top of the page, ahead of any slogan about quality and integrity. We regularly see contractor sites where you have to scroll twice to find out what the company sells.

02

Do you work where I live?

Your service area belongs on the page. A homeowner two counties away and one next door see the same site, and only one of them is a customer you want. Naming the towns you serve filters out the wrong visitors and reassures the right ones.

03

How do I get a price?

There should be one clear next step, repeated down the page. That means a phone number that dials when tapped, or a short form, instead of four buttons competing for attention. When a visitor has to think about how to contact you, some of them won't bother.

What you get

What's different about a site built for a trade

We write the copy and find the photos

The most common reason a contractor website sits half finished for a year is that somebody was waiting on the owner to write it. We pull usable photos from your phone, your Google profile and your Facebook page, and if there's nothing good we tell you exactly what to shoot.

Fast on a bad connection

A page that takes six seconds to load on cell service loses people before it appears, and oversized images are almost always the reason. We test every site on real phones, and we don't rely on a fast desktop connection in an office.

A page per service and per town

One page listing everything you do ranks for nothing. Separate pages for the services that pay and the towns worth driving to are what give Google something to match a search against.

Forms that deliver

We submit the form ourselves and confirm that it lands in your inbox and on your phone. This sounds obvious, but we have audited plenty of sites where the form had been broken for months without anyone noticing.

Built in Webflow

There are no plugins to update and no security patches to chase, so the site doesn't go down on a Friday night because two plugins conflict. Hosting is $300 a year, billed by Webflow directly to you.

Changes handled by us

You text us a new price or a new photo and it's done. You can edit it yourself if you want to, but you'll never be stuck inside a page builder trying to remember how it works.

Thirty days

The build process, week by week

There's no long research phase that uses up your first two invoices. Your total time on this is about an hour.

01

Audit and access

Kickoff call, then we get added to your Google Business Profile, your registrar and your current host. Your domain stays in your name throughout.

02

Design and copy

You see the homepage first so you can react to the direction before we build everything else on top of it.

03

Build

We build every service page and every town page, wire the forms to your phone and inbox, and connect and test analytics and Search Console.

04

Review and launch

We make your changes, do a final pass, and then move the domain over. Your old site stays live until the new one replaces it.

Questions

Common questions about the build

Is there really no build fee?

Yes. The build is covered by the monthly plan, which starts at $347. In exchange, there's a twelve month initial term, because we spread the cost of the build across it.

Do I own the site?

Your domain is yours from day one and stays in your name. The site itself is yours to take after the initial term. During the term it lives on our Webflow account and we maintain it.

What if I have no good photos?

Most contractors do not, and it's the single most common thing that stalls a build. We use what exists, and where there's a gap we send you a short shot list. It takes an afternoon on a job site.

I already have a site. Can you just fix it?

Sometimes. If it's fast, readable and converting, a rebuild is a waste of your money and we'll say so. If it's a slow page builder site with fifteen plugins, fixing it costs more than replacing it.

Is thirty days real?

It is if you take the kickoff call and do one review pass. The builds that slip are the ones where we're waiting three weeks on a decision about the homepage.

Will it rank, or just look good?

A website on its own doesn't rank. Every plan includes the Google Business Profile work and the local SEO that make the site findable, because a site that nobody sees doesn't bring in work.

See what we build for your trade: pressure washing, electricians, HVAC, landscaping, painting, plumbing, roofing, window cleaning, pest control, moving, garage doors, remodeling, tree service and construction. The ranking side is covered on SEO for contractors.

We also have a website design page for each of these trades and business types: plumbers, HVAC companies, electricians, roofers, landscapers and lawn care, pressure washing companies, restaurants, real estate agents and nonprofits and churches.

Try the three second test on your own site

Open your site on your phone at arm's length and give yourself three seconds. Then look away and say what the business does, where it works, and how you'd get a price. If you can't answer those, your next customer will have the same problem.
